Moxon bowler takes 2nd place at blind bowls
At a recent lawn bowling NSW singles and pairs competition at the Kingscliff Bowls Club, Moxon Sports Club Bowler Peter Rosenburg and his Director Sarah Susac, did his club proud by beating fierce competition to take silver medals in his category.
Sponsored by Blind Bowls NSW/ACT, the competition encourages people with vision-impairment and/or blind/partial blindness to participate in lawn bowls at local, state and national levels. Competitors came from all over NSW to compete over two full days, playing three games each day. The top two singles players from each category qualified to represent NSW at the State Competition run by Australian Blind Bowls Association (ABBA).
The rules for blind bowls are the same as sighted bowls with the only two differences: there is a small string down the middle of the lawn in order to help the bowlers to line up their shot, and secondly, the bowler has a second person called a director or guide to assist them in their action.
“We knew going into it, there was fierce competition,” said Lesley Coombes, Secretary/Bowls Co-ordinator of Moxon Sports Lawn Bowling Club. “My own personal highlight was when Peter took the win from a player who recently represented Australia at the World Games earlier this year in March.”
The President of Blind Bowls NSW/ACT, Mr Alex Morrison, presented Peter with his two silver medals for placing 2nd in singles and 2nd in pairs. He also received his NSW Shirt to represent NSW at the Blind Bowls State Championships next year.
Congratulations Peter and good luck for your upcoming state competition!
