24 local organisations have just received a very large injection of funds – $298,312 worth of grants to be exact – from Canterbury League Club through their ClubGRANTS program.

Each recipient organisation received funding to run specific health and social welfare programs that assist different groups in need within the local community including family support, aged, disability, and early childhood and youth services.

Some of the benefitting organisations include Lakemba Public School, Canterbury Community Child Care Centre, Horizon Theatre Company, Wangee Park School, Canterbury Meals on Wheels and Canterbury Hospital.

Canterbury Hospital and Canterbury Meals on Wheels received the largest grants this year – $66,065 used to purchase a new Holmium Laser to treat renal stones in patients and $47,100 respectively, used to re-fit a new kitchen at the Canterbury Meals on Wheels’ Campsie site.

Canterbury is a passionate supporter of local communities and every year donates over $1 million to various not-for-profit organisations, charities, schools and sporting groups as well as providing scholarships to young people. In the past year, Canterbury has supported over 120 recipient groups with vital funding and item donations.

“We considered over 150 applicants and the committee chose organisations with projects that address the highest needs in the local area. This year’s projects really aim to improve the lives of its participants and make a difference to the community,” said Dr George Peponis OAM, Chairman of Canterbury League Club.
