On the 11th hour of the 11th day of November this year, a service was held by the Lakemba RSL Sub- Branch to remember those who had served and sacrificed for this great nation that we live in today. This year marked the 101st anniversary since the armistice was signed on 11 November 1918 to conclude the end of World War One.
Approximately 40 sub-branch members, members of the public and guests attended the Remembrance Day Commemoration. Wreaths were laid by Mr. Jihad Dib MP of Lakemba, The Lakemba Club Venue Manager, and Mr. Ron Shearim on behalf of the Lakemba Club RSL sub-Branch. President of the Lakemba RSL sub-Branch, Ann Garland OAM, recited The Ode.
Both the sub-branch members and The Lakemba Club staff wore poppies as a symbol of respect. Poppies were some of the first plants to come from the battlefields of Belgium and northern France during the Great War.
After the ceremony, everyone who attended the service was invited back to the club for some light refreshments. Thank you to everyone who came to pay tribute to the many brave men and women who served their countries.
