HAIRY MOUSTACHES TO START MOVEMBER CONVERSATION

Posted on Tuesday, 11 November 2014

Over 60 staff members including Canterbury CEO Dave Brace and COO Jon Brain have taken on the challenge to grow a moustache to raise funds and awareness for men’s health during the month of Movember.

Canterbury Mo Bros and Mo Sistas, affectionately known as the ‘Canterbury Moustache League’, have a goal to raise $5000 over the course of the month with Canterbury pledging to match every dollar, up to $10 000, fundraised by participating staff. All funds raised go back to the Movember Foundation.

“It is fantastic to see so many Canterbury staff participate in Movember and actively work together to make a change for men’s health in our community,” said Dave Brace, CEO of Canterbury League Club.

“Awareness programs like Movember are fantastic in reducing the stigma associated with men not wanting to speak to their doctors about their personal health until it is too late. The earlier we can start the conversation about men’s health, the better the outcome.”

First created by two friends in Melbourne in 2003, Movember has grown from strength to strength to become a global movement raising funds and awareness about men’s prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health problems. Over 832 projects in 21 countries have since received vital funding used to improve the lives of those living with men’s health problems.

Canterbury Human Resources will be running several competitions for best moustaches and at the end of the month, there will be an afternoon tea Mo Party to wrap up the month and announce the winners.
