The Lakemba RSL Sub-Branch has been a vital part of the veteran community since its establishment on 10 June 1940, and as part of its 85th anniversary this year, they are calling on younger veterans to join and ensure the continuation of its legacy of support.

Membership is entirely free, with no fees or charges, and comes with a range of benefits including social activities, community dinners, and quarterly meetings at The Lakemba Club. Membership is open to serving and ex-service members of the Australian Defence Force.

Additionally, members receive access to the broader services of RSL NSW, offering guidance on claims, mental health support, and general assistance with transitioning to civilian life.

“One of the biggest challenges veterans face after service is adjusting to civilian life,” said Lakemba RSL Sub-Branch Secretary Gloria Hansen OAM.

“The Lakemba RSL Sub-Branch plays a crucial role in providing advice, direction, and emotional support, helping veterans navigate new opportunities while staying connected to a community that understands their experiences.”

The Sub-Branch is also deeply involved in commemorative events, including Anzac Day, Remembrance Day, and Victory in the Pacific Day – hosting parades, dinners, and other activities to honour those who have served. These events serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Defence personnel while fostering unity among veterans and the broader community.

Gloria further emphasised, “The Sub-Branch is eager to welcome younger veterans to continue its mission of support and camaraderie. This is a place for those who have served to come together, share their experiences, and assist one another. We want to ensure our legacy continues for generations to come.”

For veterans looking for a supportive community, the Lakemba RSL Sub Branch offers a warm welcome. Those interested can sign up simply by filling out a membership form, with verification handled through RSL NSW.

“If you or someone you know is a veteran in need of support, the Lakemba RSL Sub-Branch stands ready to provide friendship, advice, and a place to belong,” said Gloria.
