Local Community Unites for ANZAC Day Service 2026

Posted on Thursday, 30 April 2026

This year’s ANZAC Day service at The Lakemba Club was a powerful reflection of what community truly means – connection, respect and coming together to honour those who have served, past and present.

With approximately 350 people in attendance – an increase on last year’s event – the service was one of the most well-supported to date. The morning march started promptly at 7:15am from The Lakemba Club to the Lakemba War Memorial at Lakemba Train Station, and the service ran for around 50 minutes.

Attendees were then invited back to the Club for a Gunshot Breakfast, continuing the spirit of togetherness.

“A standout this year was the remarkable level of community involvement. A record 23 wreaths were laid, and eight local schools took part, adding a meaningful and heartfelt dimension to the ceremony,” said Chris Taylor, Venue Manager of The Lakemba Club and co-organiser of the event.

“Their presence helped ensure the next generation remains connected to the significance of the day.”

Wreaths were laid by representatives from Canterbury League Club, Lakemba RSL Sub-Branch, The Hon. Sophie Cotsis MP, Member for Canterbury, Campsie Police Area Command, Clr Hady Saleh from Canterbury Bankstown Council, Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, local churches, and schools.

“We were also honoured to hear from Moe Faour, an Iraq veteran and local business owner, whose words resonated deeply with attendees,” said Chris.

Thank you to everyone who attended the ANZAC Day event to share in the moment of remembrance and unity.

Lest we forget.
