Yoga for kids school program relieving stress

It’s not just adults that have to deal with anxiety and stress of everyday life – more and more school children these days are also feeling the pressure to perform in today’s fast-paced society.

Local Lakemba Public School, using a $3,200 donation from The Lakemba Club, has set up the Yoga for Calm Kids program to help school kids develop the necessary skills to effectively deal with their stress and poor mood.

Staff Christmas Party a fairyland delight

Canterbury’s staff Christmas party was a slightly different affair this year with the Club booking out the entire venue of the converted industrial warehouse café and restaurant, The Grounds of Alexandria.

It was a special evening – the mood was set early on in the night with the rustic and industrial feeling of the venue brightly lit with hundreds of candles and thousands of fairy lights decorating the organic gardens full of vegetables, edibles flowers, herbs and fresh fruit.

Hairy moustaches to start Movember conversation

Over 60 staff members including Canterbury CEO Dave Brace and COO Jon Brain have taken on the challenge to grow a moustache to raise funds and awareness for men’s health during the month of Movember.

Canterbury Mo Bros and Mo Sistas, affectionately known as the ‘Canterbury Moustache League’, have a goal to raise $5000 over the course of the month with Canterbury pledging to match every dollar, up to $10 000, fundraised by participating staff. All funds raised go back to the Movember Foundation.

A local eight-week program showing women how to tackle everyday stresses is proving popular with mothers.

The Living Calm for Women program, run by the Lakemba & Wiley Park School as Community Centre (SaCC), teaches participants how to utilise natural ways to achieve better health, improve their family and social lives, and safely manage stress.
